WORLD CUP RUSSIA 2018: Nigeria draws Argentina for the fifth time


FRI, DECEMBER 1 2017-theG&BJournal-Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles is drawn to meet Argentina in the first round of the Russia 2018 World Cup. This will be the fifth time both teams play each other in the World Cup finals.

Analysts say it is the toughest group of the draw which took place in Moscow today and includes Iceland and Croatia. Diago Maradona said after the draw, “these are tough teams and Argentina will have to step up their game from the first game.”

Nigeria beat Argentina 4-2 in a pulsating game November 14 2017 in Krasnodar with goals from Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Ihanacho and Brian Idowu.

Russia, Germany, Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, Belgium Poland and France were the top seeded teams and they are the highest-ranked teams in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking in October 2017.

Russia, the host nation is grouped alongside Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Uruguay in group A. In B is Portugal, Spain Morocco and Iran. In group C is France, Australia, Peru and Denmark. Brazil will play alongside Switzerland, Costa Rica and Serbia in group E. Germany will play their opening match against Mexico in group F which includes Sweden and Korea. Belgium, Panama, Tunisia and England play in G while Poland, Senegal, Colombia and Japan are grouped in H.
