FRI, MARCH 17 2017-The Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria (SCGN) and Platinum Edge Consulting  (PEC) held a two day (March 15-16, 2017) seminar focusing on money laundering and terrorism financing aimed at helping companies and their executives learn how to implement sound financial crime risk assessment and management programmes.

The seminar which held at the Virgin Rose Resorts in Victoria Island Lagos comes amidst growing global concern on Money Laundering and terrorism financing which are increasingly difficult to track particularly, in a cash intensive economy such as Nigeria.

At the seminar directors learnt the importance of their role in ensuring that their organisations implement sound anti-money laundering (AML) and counter terrorism financing (CTF) programmes to avoid regulatory sanctions. They were also taught how to successfully carry out robust AML and CTF risk assessment exercises using best practices methodology and FICO Tonbeller Compliance Software  Solutions as well as how to be able to interpret the results of the AML and CTF risk assessments, how knowledge is applied to perfectly integrate AML and CTF risk assessment considerations into compliance programmes and decisions and were prepared on how to provide effective risk mitigation to the identified exposures for sustainability of the organisation.

Financial risk assessments are one element of financial crime compliance available to organisations which can be used to strengthen an organisation’s compliance framework. The assessments highlight key risk areas, as well as the establishment of strategic and tactical action plans for managing the identified risks.
