BAUCHI, DECEMBER 5, 2017 – The Concerned North- East Youth Forum (CNEYF) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, in Bauchi, adopted the former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran as its candidate for the chairmanship position.
According to a statement signed by CNEYF’s Zonal Coordinator, Prince Muhammed Sani Hassan and Secretary, Yusuf Muhammed, the group is striving to strengthen and reposition the PDP despite the previous defeat the party suffered in the 2015 general elections.
The statement furthered that the intention of the group wasn’t to stop the aspiration of any other person or group of persons interested in the position, rather it seeks to put the record straight for all to understand its support lies as it concerns the post of party’s National chairmanship.
The statement reads in part: “Like you are aware, the durability and sustainability of democratic institutions is probably hinged on its integrity and preservation of its core positive values. We believe that our party deserves the most respected leadership.
As a party that knows the people and shares their hopes, aspiration, fears and anxiety, the party has crucial role to play in ensuring the peace, stability and progress of our nation. Indeed, the party is still solid.”
The statement stressed that lack of rules and internal party democracy in PDP was the cause of the problems the party faced in the past and was equally led to dictatorship, which was perpetuated by some party leaders and sponsors allegedly hijacked the party to the detriment of loyal party members.
As the party moves towards repositioning itself, it stated, time is becoming ripe to have another National Chairman, who will lead the party to the next level, giving every member a sense of belonging.
It also noted that the party needs a person with vision, who builds bridges across the country and can face the present challenges, which Prof. Tunde Adeniran, a one time Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany, fits into.
The statement also stressed that Prof. Adeniran ranks best among all the national chairmanship aspirants, judging by his strides in all spheres of human endeavours.
Prof. Adeniran, according to the group, possesses the character – integrity, humility, and respect for every one irrespective of social status coupled with his readiness to listen to all issues brought before him. Prof. Adeniran, a graduate of Colombia University (USA), also produced the former US President, Barak Obama.
“This decision of ours was born out of patriotism, eligibility, sincere concern and has been made after a grueling and passionate screening of dozens of potential aspirants.
We wholeheartedly appreciate the zoning of the chairmanship of PDP to the South-West. This noble principle was patriotically knitted by the founding fathers of the party to give every Nigerian a sense of belonging and involvement.”
