LAGOS, NOVEMBER 19, 2016 – Nigeria’s poultry industry can create one million jobs and generate over a trillion naira in revenues annually if the federal government encourages local production of raw materials, the president of the Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Mr. Ayoola Oduntan, has said.

He said this at a seminar in Lagos where he also advised the government against continuous export of poultry raw materials insisting there is shortage in the country and by implication, many local poultry farmers have stopped production, thereby increasing unemployment rate.

With the rating of Nigeria as the number one producer of eggs in West Africa, with over 10 billion eggs annually, Oduntan said the country could become an exporter of eggs if the government provides the required support.

To further discuss the future of poultry business in Nigeria, the president said a two-day Nigerian poultry show with the theme; ‘Sustaining the poultry industry in an economic recession,’ will be held at DLK Events Centre in Abeokuta between November 29 and 30, with exhibitors expected from both Nigeria and more than seven other countries.
