SUN, JULY 2 2017-The people of Ekiti state woke up today with the news that the Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has dissolved the State Executive Council.
Inside sources say the cabinet members affected were shocked and expressed disappointment the manner the governor sacked them.
“It is akin to what you get in military regimes when cabinet members learn of their sack first on NTA news before being officially informed,” one aide to a commissioner told theG&BJournal today. He added that it is very unconstitutional. “You don’t just dissolve the cabinet without consultation. It is about time we begin to challenge this barbaric attitude,” he said
The dissolution was announced in the early hours of Sunday by Fayose’s Special Adviser on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, in a statement.
All the former Commissioners have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries. Fayose thanked the former commissioners for their service to the State and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Close sources told theG&BJournal that some other states in the South South will follow suit shortly, including Delta State where the expectation has been on the card for a while following a series of high profile meetings in the Governors home town, Agbor recently.
