EFCC Arrests Akpabio over Alleged N10m Scam

RIVERS, NOVEMBER 3, 2016 – Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), have arrested Mr. Ibanga Akpabio, over a N10 million oil scam.

Akpabio, who is said to be a cousin to former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was arrested on Tuesday in Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

A statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said Akpabio’s arrest followed allegations that he collected the sum of N10,000,000 from a potential investor in petroleum products, with a view to allegedly getting products from a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)-run floating station.

The statement reads: “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested Ibanga Ime Akpabio, cousin to the former Akwa Ibom Governor, Godswill Akpabio for his involvement in a N10 million oil scam. He was arrested on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“Akpabio’s arrest was occasioned by an allegation that he collected a sum of N10 million from a potential investor in petroleum products.”
